ATHENS — Thanks for tuning in to the Zaxby’s Sound Off, with beat writers Seth Emerson and Chip Towers offering their thoughts on the Georgia football team. Each week your DawgNation beat writers offer up some thoughts on the Bulldogs. Here is a short preview of this week’s show.
Two scrimmages are in the books, and it’s less than two weeks before Georgia kicks off against Appalachian State between the hedges. So there’s a lot to sound off about:
- The big news is the injury to starting senior cornerback Malkom Parrish, the first major hit to Georgia this preseason. Parrish will be out several weeks and likely will not play against Appalachian State. Chip and Seth talk about how long Georgia may be without its most experienced cornerback.
- So what is the ripple effect in the secondary? And how worried should Georgia fans be now about the defensive backs? Your faithful beat writers get into that all too.
- Also discussed: The status of various position competitions, including at star and cornerback, but also along the offensive line and with special teams.
- Finally, we discuss what will happen, process-wise, over the final two weeks of practice.
If you didn’t see last week’s video, you can watch it here.
In case you didn’t see it, here is Chip’s story on the transition that was signified by Saturday’s scrimmage — and the watermelon cuttin’ tradition.
Coach Kirby Smart said that Parrish’s injury wasn’t “doomsday” for the secondary, but he also didn’t shrug it off as unimportant. Here are his quotes about that.
For more information on those ripple effects in the secondary, here was the report from before the scrimmage, when freshman Richard LeCounte was getting first-team reps at safety.
There will be much more from practice this week, including updates on the secondary, whether a first-team offensive line has been nailed down, and whether Rodrigo Blankenship or David Marvin will be the kicker.
We hope you enjoy the insights — and other stuff — on the show this week. And we hope you continue to read all our coverage on DawgNation.
