Oklahoma opened a few eyes after a 62-52 Bedlam win last Saturday, and the Sooners are one spot outside of the College Football Playoff at No. 5 in the latest rankings.
The Solid Verbal podcast, one of the top sports podcasts on iTunes, discussed the prospect of the playoff committee choosing between a 1-loss Oklahoma team and an undefeated Wisconsin team for the final playoff spot if both teams win out.
Dan Rubenstein, one of the show’s hosts, says he values the Sooners’ performance on the field over the Badgers.
“I would take Oklahoma at 12-1 over an undefeated Wisconsin team,” Rubenstein said on the podcast. “… If that’s ultimately what it comes down to. … If it comes down to those two teams squaring off for that final spot, I would take Oklahoma.”
Rubenstein went on to say he thinks the Big 12 is in a good position to make the College Football Playoff. Oklahoma and TCU are ranked No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, in the playoff rankings. The schools face each other on Saturday, and the winner will have a great opportunity to get to one of the playoff semifinal sites.
Despite Wisconsin’s potentially undefeated record, one of the main reasons Rubenstein would leave out the Badgers is he wants to see the Sooners’ high-powered offense in the playoff.
“Right now, I love that Oklahoma has the best passing game in the country,” Rubenstein said. “I don’t care all that much if they keep winning even if their defense doesn’t look good, I want to see the best passing game in the country in the playoff.”
