My Senior Walk: Ohio State commit Teradja Mitchell was asked if he’d de-commit following Buckeyes loss

Ohio State 2018 linebacker commit Teradja Mitchell, a 5-star prospect at Bishop Sullivan Catholic in Virginia Beach, Va., has agreed to do a weekly journal of his senior season with the Crusaders. The nation’s second-ranked inside linebacker joins Land of 10 every Wednesday at 3 p.m.

It seems like I am approaching my “last everything” of high school and that is starting to hit me now. I just keep adding “last” on to everything I say.

Last week was my last bye week ever of high school and now this week is my last road game, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to test myself against. We’re going to play the IMG Academy, and they’re my favorite team that I have played against in high school football.

Last year they got the best of us when we blew a 6-0 lead that we held for more than three-and-a-half quarters. They scored  16 unanswered points with 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter and we ended up losing the game 16-6. It was a rough loss because we beat ourselves down the stretch allowing them to come back and knock us off. But, it’s a new year, we’re a new team and we’ve got a new opportunity. We’ve been prepping all week for this one.

Because we are ineligible to play for a state championship since we play no Virginia teams, this is kind of considered the playoffs for us. We are coming in with a “go big or go home” mentality, because there’s nothing to lose. We are coming into this game as the clear underdogs and we want it to be just like that. I think it brings us closer together as a team. Being told you have no chance to win is a big motivator.

Individually, this game has to be a statement game for me. I have the perfect opportunity to showcase my talent against probably the best team in the country, and to enhance what I think is a strong resume to win the prestigious Butkus Award I’ve been striving for. I believe this is going to be one of my better games I have played this season, because this is why I love football. I love the big moments and challenges that come with it. Every week shows you if you really are tough enough, and able to rise to the challenge.

Speaking of rising to the challenge, Iowa did just that as they demolished Ohio State this past weekend. This game was tough to watch because I was not expecting the game to end up like that at all. I don’t think anyone did.

From the second play of the game, all the way to the end, it was bad. After how we played in the second half of the Penn State game, I thought we’d get on a roll and were going to win out. However, it is college football and you can lose on any given Saturday, and that was proven on Saturday. Some teams just want it a little more some games. Iowa was a sleeper team that just came to play football and we can’t take any game for granted. We’ll bounce back this week, for sure, against Michigan State.

After the game, I was actually asked if I was going to de-commit from Ohio State because they had got blown out. I swear people crack me up every week with weird and crazy questions or statements. I feel like any recruit who commits to a school based off a record is ridiculously lost. It’s got to be about more than that, period. Believe me, though, win or lose I’m a Buckeye, 1,000 percent.

That’s all for this week, everyone. Thanks for reading.
