The SEC is known for churning out elite defensive linemen. And despite losing the likes of Myles Garrett, Derek Barnett and Jonathan Allen to the NFL, the SEC still brings back a number of talented standouts.
So the SEC Network’s Jordan Rodgers had a little fun and put together what he thought was the best defensive line in the SEC. He picked LSU’s Arden Key, Alabama’s Da’Ron Payne, Georgia’s Trent Thompson and Ole Miss’ Marquis Haynes to round out the foursome.
Rodgers called Key the best pass rusher in the country, and he’s got the production to prove it. While he might not be back for the opener against BYU, he’s still expected to have a big year. Thompson missed the spring for the Bulldogs but the Georgia coaching staff is already raving about him.
Payne is expected to make a Jonathan Allen type leap and Haynes is going to lead the Ole Miss defense this year. All four players were named preseason SEC, though Arden Key was listed as a linebacker.
As for alternatives, Florida’s CeCe Jefferson and Auburn’s Marlon Davidson could also be seen as possible inclusions in the list.
