There is little doubt that what the Georgia offense will rely on most in 2017 is its incredible backfield talent, led by running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. With both backs returning for their senior season, the Bulldogs figure to have one of the most dynamic and dominant rushing attacks in the country.
So dominant, in fact, that SEC Network analyst, and former Georgia star, David Pollack called the two of them ‘ the best duo in college football‘ on Friday’s edition of the Paul Finebaum show.
In 2016, Chubb and Michel combined for 2205 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns. Chubb, however, was making his return from a devastating knee injury suffered in 2015, and could be in for a monster final campaign now that he’s fully healthy again.
As good as that duo is, they were not who Pollack pegged as the key to UGA’s season. That honor goes to sophomore quarterback Jacob Eason, who had a solid, if up and down, freshman season a year ago. Pollack particularly singled out Eason’s accuracy as a thing he’ll need to improve on if Georgia is going to live up to the expectations set for them at this year’s SEC Media Days, in which they were selected to finish first in the SEC East and make their first trip to Atlanta since 2012.
