Sam Darnold and Trojan receivers putting on a show in first half

USC-Sam Darnold-Draft-2018

USC quarterback Sam Darnold looked like the Sam Darnold Trojan fans hoped to see all season in the first half against Colorado today. It could be argued that it’s the best stretch of ball he’s played all season and his receivers are helping the cause with some great catches.

Darnold completed 16 of 23 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions while helping the Trojans build a 21-0 lead. Even better, his completions have gone to six different receivers.

These completions show it all working together: great projection up front, nice route design, excellent route running, an accurate throw and a great catch.

Among the highlights:

The first score featured textbook execution of the fade route as Michael Pittman Jr. went up in the corner, high-pointed the football and snagged it for the touchdown. Darnold put the football right on the money.

Darnold also flashed some nice mobility in the pocket and showed his strong arm in completing this throw.

More mobility

Another great angle on the slant route to Burnett.

And a nice throw up the sideline. Darnold sets his feet, steps into it and throws a dart.
