Another day, another name for the Tennessee coaching search. And this time, it’s a name with SEC ties.
According to a report from Mark Schlabach of ESPN, Tennessee is planning to talk to Kevin Sumlin about the coaching opening. Dave Doeren of NC State turned down the Tennessee job in order to stay at NC State.

#Tennessee may now try and hustle to get a deal done with Kevin Sumlin who is likely to be in play for some potential vacancies.

In addition to Doeren, the Volunteers have now missed on Mike Gundy, David Cutcliffe, Dan Mullen and Jeff Brohm. And all of this comes after Tennessee had a deal with Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano. That deal came apart on Sunday as John Currie and the Tennessee athletic department faced intense pressure from its fan base.
Florida, Mississippi State and Ole Miss have all named coaches since Tennessee went back on its deal with Schiano. There have also been a number of reports linking Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M.
