Tennessee appeared to have an agreement for Greg Schiano to be its next coach — and then, the deal reportedly fell through after backlash from fans, boosters and others.
Where do the Vols go from here? According to John Brice of Gridiron Now, Tennessee has since contacted Purdue coach Jeff Brohm and USC offensive coordinator Tee Martin.
Will either of these coaches be big enough names for the fan base that just pushed out Schiano before he even arrived at Rocky Top?
Brohm is in his first year at Purdue, which just went 6-6 in the regular season. He went 30-10 over three seasons at Western Kentucky prior to that. He also previously served as an assistant at Louisville, Florida Atlantic, Illinois and UAB.
Martin has never been a head coach, but he is in his second season as USC’s offensive coordinator. He has been an assistant for the Trojans since 2012. Prior to that, he was an assistant at Kentucky from 2010-11.
While Brohm and Martin are reported candidates, it’s impossible to tell where this coaching search will go after all the drama that unfolded on Sunday regarding the Schiano situation.
The Vols just completed their first eight-loss season in program history, going 4-8 and losing all eight of their games against SEC opponents.
