Report: N.C. State coach Dave Doeren rejects Tennessee offer

Dave Doeren’s flirtation with Tennessee apparently paid off in his favor with N.C. State.

The coach interviewed with Tennessee about their opening on Wednesday however ultimately decided to remain at N.C. State.

Not only that, Doeren is now “expected” to receive the new deal at N.C. State he’s been pushing for since the last six weeks.

Doeren was also in the running for the Ole Miss head coaching job as well, according to  Dan Wolken of USA Today.

According to Wolken, if Ole Miss didn’t beat Mississippi State last Thursday, the school likely would not have offered interim coach Matt Luke the full-time position and would have hired Doeren.

Doeren’s current deal was automatically extended through 2020 due to N.C. State winning eight games this season. The Wolfpack won six in a row to get to 6-1 and were ranked as high as No. 14 before finishing the regular season 2-3.

Wolken reports that any renegotiation of Doeren’s contract  would include extending the length of the deal by over than three years.
