Report: South Carolina AD helps fan keep 295-game attendance streak alive

Ray Tanner-South Carolina

Imagine going to every South Carolina football game since 1992. Super fan Kirk Hollingsworth has done just that and is woven into the fabric of the Gamecocks’ athletic program.

Hurricane Irma had other ideas for Hollingsworth’s plans this weekend when according to Ben Breiner at The State, his bus trip to Columbia, Missouri to watch South Carolina play Mizzou was canceled.

It’s difficult for Hollingsworth to get around using his power chair so he was certain the streak would end.

That’s when South Carolina and AD Ray Tanner jumped into action. According to Breiner, who spoke with Hollingsworth, the university called and offered Hollingsworth a ride on an athletic department plane.

“The University of South Carolina called and said they’ve got room for me on the (athletic department) plane that leaves out in the morning,” Hollingsworth said. “Ray Tanner got this thing organized in a quick fashion. I’ll be going.”

“Gamecock nation really came through for me,” Hollingsworth said. “I can’t thank them enough and I can’t thank (enough) the University of South Carolina for making this happen.”

Kudos to the Gamecocks for making this happen.
