Report: Possible timeline revealed for Arkansas coach, AD hires

There isn’t a shortage of news coming out of Arkansas these days.

Not long ago, the school parted ways with athletic director Jeff Long. Then last Friday, Bret Bielema was fired as Arkansas’ football coach. That leaves the school in need of quality hires at two important positions, and officials must accomplish both fast.

In a column by Arkansas Online’s Wally Hall, a possible timeline for filling those positions is revealed. Hall writes that with Chancellor Joe Steinmetz’s advisory committee meeting Tuesday, the school appears that it “will have an athletic director by the end of the week and a head football coach early next week.”

Here’s more from Hall’s piece:

The main thing is everyone finally realizes the need for speed, and an athletic director needs to be named before a head coach can be hired.

Whoever is hired needs to immediately start looking at possible head coaches because the Razorback Nation is uneasy and has been for weeks. The fans want and deserve stability.

More than likely, the vetting of possible head coaches has begun.

Applications for the athletic director opening still should be coming in, but with the Dec. 20 early football signing period just around the corner, Steinmetz needs to get it right, and right now.

That would be some fast-moving action, if everything turns out as Hall suggests.

This much is known: Arkansas needs to get the right people in place to move beyond this period of uncertainty for the Razorbacks’ football program and its fans. It has been a wild month.
