South Carolina fans hoping to see a huge Gamecock statue finished by football season reportedly will be disappointed.
As relayed by The State’s Avery G. Wilks on Thursday, the 15- to-18-foot item “is taking longer than expected to cast in bronze and assemble,” per the school.
The statue costs $995,000, and it was paid through private gifts. South Carolina officials had hoped the statue would be in place near Williams-Brice Stadium before the Gamecocks hosted Kentucky on Sept. 16.
Per Wilks, the statue won’t be installed until after the season.
