Tennessee reportedly had a deal in place to make Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano its new coach on Sunday afternoon, but now multiple reports say that agreement is off.
However, things were apparently advanced enough that Schiano’s camp is looking for compensation from Tennessee for calling off the deal. That’s according to a report from Footballscoop.com.
According to a report from Bruce Feldman, the paperwork was “in progress” to make Schiano the next coach of Tennessee.
“It’s a feeding frenzy here now,” a source told Feldman about the Schiano case. “It’s been a total uproar in this state. You have legislators, some big-time players who have gotten involved. It’s a hot mess.”
That would be virtually unprecedented in terms of coaching searches, but so was the backlash that Tennessee fans unleashed after the news of Schiano’s hiring leaked on Sunday.
