Mike Gundy is an Oklahoma State alum, and he’s been the head coach for the Cowboys since 2001. So if Tennessee is going to convince him to leave, it may take some persuasion.
Who better to persuade than one of the best athletes in Vols history?
According to national college football reporter Brett McMurphy, Peyton Manning called Gundy to make a pitch to the Oklahoma State coach to take the Tennessee job. The Vols have an opening after firing Butch Jones earlier this month.

There have been rumors surrounding Gundy heading to the Vols, as the two sides reportedly were scheduled to meet on Tuesday. According to McMurphy, Manning’s call happened prior to that reported meeting.
Manning is one of the most recognizable figures in not just Tennessee history, but in all of sports. The former Vols quarterback had an extraordinary 17-year career in the NFL, has hosted Saturday Night Live and often appears in various commercials.
