The dream of having Mike Leach in the SEC isn’t dead, but it’s not looking good, either.
According to ESPN’s Chris Low, Tennessee AD John Currie left California without a deal struck with Washington State coach Mike Leach.
No deal has been struck between Tennessee and Washington State's Mike Leach, and Tennessee AD John Currie is back in Knoxville. Currie is scheduled to meet Friday morning with chancellor Beverly Davenport and other school officials to reassess the search.

Tennessee has conducted one of the most chaotic coaching searches in recent memory, and this would only be the latest on a growing list of failures.
Leach has coached in the SEC before as an offensive coordinator and had a reasonable amount of success. His quarterback at Kentucky, Tim Couch, still holds the SEC single-season passing yards record was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
If a deal with Leach can’t be reached, it’s not clear where the Vols will go from here.
