Relationship with Tennessee WR coach Kevin Beard helps bring commitment from Shocky Jacques-Louis

Persistence has paid off for the Tennessee coaching staff on the recruiting trail, and Monday was the latest dividend.

Tennessee received a commitment from wide receiver Shocky Jacques-Louis, who became the 22nd commit of the Class of 2018.

Jacques-Louis’ relationship with wide receivers coach Kevin Beard helped put the Vols over the top.

“Just talking to Coach Beard almost, like, every day and Coach [Butch] Jones, just that family feeling really pushed me toward them ,” Jacques-Louis told Ryan Callahan of 247Sports.

The family feel Tennessee’s coaches have cultivated when talking to the recruits have served them well. Almost every commit mentions the atmosphere and how they feel like it’s home.

“Some programs, they have the tendency to make everything feel like it’s Wonderland,” Jacques-Louis said. “But they didn’t,” he said. “It just seemed so real. Everything was family-based — just the love that they showed.

“And I went with my 7-on-7 team, and some of them had offers from Tennessee, but they were showing so much love to each and every one of us, no matter whether they had an offer or not. They were taking their time. And I just love that family feeling, because I’ve got a big family and what not down here, so I’d love to feel that feeling somewhere else where my family can’t be.”

Jacques-Louis said he felt the love when he made the commitment official when he told the coaches.

“When I told Coach Jones, he was talking about how I made his day,” Jacques-Louis said. “He’s real excited. He said he could give me a hug and chest-bump me and stuff like that. And Coach Beard, when I told him, he was like, ‘Stop playing with me,’ and whatnot. I was like, ‘Coach, I’m not playing with you, man. I’m serious.’ He’s got that Florida swag.”

The Fort Myers, Fla., native seems to have felt a connection with Beard.

Jacques-Louis had leaned toward Tennessee for the past few months, and bringing him into the fold is another big win for the coaching staff.
