Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield is the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. Remove the clutter, and he gets even better.
Mayfield is the FBS leader in adjusted completion percentage. The metric considers dropped passes, throwaways, spikes, batted passes and passes Mayfield was hit as he threw. His mark of 83.5 percent is nearly 3.0 percent better than any other FBS quarterback.

Even without looking at advanced metrics, Mayfield is the nation’s best quarterback. He is first in completion percentage (71.7), first in passing efficiency (201.6), first in yards per attempt (11.9), second in passing yards (3,226) and tied for fourth in passing touchdowns (28).
Mayfield will get the chance to further boost his stock Saturday against No. 6 TCU. The Horned Frogs have the nation’s sixth-ranked scoring defense, presenting Mayfield with a challenge. He could possibly lock up the Heisman with a strong performance Saturday.
