AP Poll: 6 SEC teams ranked in Top 25 after Week 1 action

The Week 1 AP Poll was released by the Associated Press on Tuesday. Six SEC teams were listed in the Top 25 after the first full weekend of the 2017 football season.

It was no surprise to see Alabama stand tall as the top-rated team in the poll coming off a prime-time victory against Florida State at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday night. Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide checks in at No. 1 on the list ahead of Ohio State, which got off to a sluggish start in a road win against Indiana on Thursday evening.

LSU and Auburn checked in as the next two SEC teams in the poll after taking care of BYU and Georgia Southern, respectively, in season openers.

Georgia took care of Appalachian State, but lost starting QB Jacob Eason in the process. He will not be able to play when the Bulldogs take on Notre Dame on Saturday. Tennessee capped Week 1 action with a thrilling overtime victory against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Florida was the league’s lone ranked blemish in Week 1, showing little signs of life on offense in a 33-17 loss to Michigan at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Saturday afternoon.

The Associated Press began its college football poll on Oct. 19, 1936, and it is now the longest-running poll of those that award national titles at the end of the season. The preseason poll was started in 1950. 61 members members vote in the poll each week.

The 2017 preseason AP Poll placed the Crimson Tide as the top SEC team at No. 1, Auburn at No. 12, LSU at No. 13, Georgia at No. 15, Florida at No. 17 and Tennessee at No. 25.
