NEW ORLEANS — LSU opened the 2017 football season with a 27-0 victory over BYU in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The game marked the first for many members of the football program. Of course, this was Ed Orgeron’s first game as the Tigers’ full-time head coach. Matt Canada was making his debut as LSU’s offensive coordinator.
The Tigers also welcomed a handful of true freshmen to the team, most notably Saahdiq Charles, Ed Ingram, K’Lavon Chaisson, Jacob Phillips, Tyler Taylor, Kary Vincent Jr. and Grant Delpit, who all either started or saw action in the first game of the season.
2017 ESPY Arthur Ashe Courage Award winner Jarrius Robertson was also in the Dome serving as one of LSU’s captains. He was joined by former Tiger and current New York Jets safety Jamal Adams.
