Penn State starts Heisman campaign for RB Saquon Barkley with #HappyValleyHeisman hashtag

It’s no secret that Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is expected to be a finalist for college football’s most coveted award: The Heisman Trophy.

The Nittany Lions took that notion a step further Sunday, as they launched an entire campaign on their website,, dedicated to Barkley winning the award.

The page includes Barkley’s past and present highlights, his current season statistics, comments about him by college football analysts and the accolades he’s acquired at his time as Penn State’s running back.

Barkley is coming of his season-opening performance, where he rushed for 172 yards on 14 carries, caught three passes for 54 yards and scored two touchdowns.

In all, he had 246 all-purpose yards on only 18 touches. Those are borderline video game numbers.

He also had plays like below, where he evaded numerous would-be tacklers:

Sports Illustrated already listed Barkley as one of the top candidates for the 2017 Heisman, saying Barkley, along with Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson, Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph and LSU running back Derrius Guice, are early candidates for the award.

The winner of the Heisman Trophy will be announced on December 9, 2017. In the history of the Heisman, only one other Penn State player has claimed the award: running back John Cappelletti, who won the trophy in 1973.
