Penn State linebacker Manny Bowen out vs. Rutgers for violation of team rules

Penn State is without starting linebacker Manny Bowen on Saturday against Rutgers. James Franklin confirmed after the game that Bowen missed the game due to a “violation of team rules.”

Bowen, a starting outside linebacker, is Penn State’s third-leading tackler in 2017. He has 51 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks in 2017.

The junior played in Penn State’s loss at Michigan State last week, making eight tackles. Brandon Smith got the start in Bowen’s place against Rutgers.

Penn State is hosting Rutgers for Homecoming. It’s the Nittany Lions’ first home game since an Oct. 21 win over Michigan. James Franklin’s team enters the game on a 2-game losing streak after dropping a 39-38 decision at Ohio State on Oct. 28 and a 27-24 game at Michigan State on Nov. 4.

Penn State has never lost to Rutgers since the Scarlet Knights entered the Big Ten in 2014. The Nittany Lions beat the Scarlet Knights, 39-0, last year in Piscataway, N.J.
