The Alabama Crimson Tide rolled over Florida State on Saturday night, winning 24-7. However, Bama’s offense was clearly not where they’d like it to be, and several people took notice. One of the most prominent voices pointing out the Tide’s struggles on offense was ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, who singled out quarterback Jalen Hurts as ‘underwhelming’ on SportsCenter Sunday morning, via 247Sports.
While Finebaum is known for being controversial and does not shy away from getting under the skin of Alabama fans in particular, he may have a point here. While Alabama won comfortably, Hurts did not have a great performance, completing slightly more than half of his passes (10-for-18) for fewer than 100 yards.
Of course, considering the great freshman season he had last year, most people will expect Hurts to bounce back and have a great game as soon as next week. But for those, like Finebaum, who “didn’t see a lot of progression from last year to this year,” Hurts performance in Week 1 could be cause for concern.
