Justin Herbert had to spend a frustrating portion of the 2017 on the sideline, relegated to rehabbing after suffering a broken collarbone.
Evidently, he didn’t let it affect his academics.
Herbert, a Biology major, was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team on Thursday after posting a 4.08 GPA. He was joined by one other Duck, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton, who earned a 3.76 GPA while majoring in Human Physiology.
Herbert had completed 113 of 170 pass attempts for 1,750 yards, 13 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in just 7 games this season. His Ducks finished the regular season with a 7-5 record, capped by a 69-10 thrashing of rival Oregon State last week.
The honor is Throckmorton’s second in as many seasons. The lineman was also a Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention last season after starting all 12 games at right tackle, and a CoSIDA All-Academic District 8 honoree in 2017. He participated in all 12 games this season.
Oregon’s Taylor Alie, Kaulana Apelu, Gary Baker, Brady Breeze, Jacob Breeland, Doug Brenner, Jacob Capra, Drayton Carlberg, Jake Hanson, Shame Lemieux, Malik Lovette and Cam McCormick were named honorable mentions.
