James Washington’s college career won’t be finished after the Camping World Bowl.
Oklahoma State’s star receiver has accepted an invitation to play in 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl, joining fellow Cowboy receiver Marcell Ateman. Washington, the leading receiver in the FBS, won the 2017 Biletnikoff Award, which recognizes the nation’s top pass-catcher.
Washington’s Biletnikoff Award gave Oklahoma State three such honors since 2010, with Justin Blackmon winning the award in both 2010 and 2011. No other program has won three Biletnikoffs in the history of the award.
It’s also fitting Washington and Ateman will be able to play one final game together. They were the nation’s leading receiving duo, combining for 2,472 yards and 20 touchdowns. They also allowed Oklahoma State to become the first team in Big 12 history with a 4,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers.
Washington joined the senior bowl roster Monday. Also Monday, he made the Associated Press All-America first team.
Before he participates in the senior bowl, Washington has one final game for Oklahoma State. The Cowboys take on Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla. Washington needs 69 receiving yards to set a program record in that category.
The 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl is Jan. 27 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., the home of South Alabama. Washington had 2 receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown when the Cowboys beat the Jaguars, 44-7, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Sept. 8.
