Welcome to the Wednesday edition of our Oklahoma DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through all the biggest headlines around Oklahoma athletics.

Oklahoma snubbed in rankings

Oklahoma football moved up to No. 3 in the College Football Playoff rankings, the only one that matters ultimately. The Sooners are still trapped behind No. 1 Clemson and moved behind No. 2 Auburn in the top 25.

The Sooners were snubbed for the No. 2 spot despite having three top-25 wins in the most recent rankings. Two-loss Auburn moved ahead of the Sooners in the most recent iteration. However, the Sooners can earn a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win in the Big 12 title game.

Baker Mayfield to grace Sports Illustrated cover

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield will be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. He is one of the highest-profile college football players to play in the Big 12 in recent memory. The senior quarterback has a cover story that’s already live on the website.

Other headlines from the program:

Volleyball coach resigns

Oklahoma volleyball coach Santiago Restrepo has resigned, effectively immediately. Restrepo coached the Sooners for 14 seasons and led them to a 242-192 record during his time in Norman.

Before coming to Oklahoma, Restrepo earned Conference USA coach of the year at Southern Miss. He won Big 12 coach of the year in 2006. Restrepo earned trips to the Sweet 16 in both 2006 and 2010, and made the tournament eight times. However, Oklahoma struggled to a 7-22 season in 2017.

Other headlines from the around the program:

  • Former Oklahoma basketball star and Los Angeles Clippers big man Blake Griffin will miss up to two months with a sprained MCL.
  • Women’s basketball fell 68-56 to Little Rock on Tuesday night, just the second loss against the program in OU history. Little Rock went up 16-2 in the first quarter, and the Sooners were unable to recover.
  • Oklahoma women’s tennis released its 2018 spring schedule on Tuesday. The Sooners start the season on Feb. 3 against Arkansas.
