Welcome to the Tuesday edition of our Oklahoma DieHards morning roundup, where we take you through all the biggest headlines around Oklahoma athletics.

Oklahoma trio earns Big 12 honor

Oklahoma pulled off a dominant 62-52 win over No. 11 Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Sooners nearly swept the honors from across the league.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield easily won offensive player of the week after breaking an Oklahoma record with 598 passing yards and 6 total touchdowns. Wide receiver Marquise Brown posted 265 receiving yards and a pair of touchdown catches to earn newcomer of the week. Kicker Austin Seibert rounded it out with 2 field goals, 8 extra points and 10 touchbacks to win special teams player of the week.

Baker Mayfield challenges fans

Oklahoma played in a great environment on Saturday in Stillwater. However, with No. 8 TCU right around the corner, Mayfield wants Sooner Nation to be ready.

Mayfield challenged Oklahoma fans to be the rowdiest they’ve ever been. “I don’t want to hear any talk about the 2008 Texas Tech game,” Mayfield said. “This needs to be the new talk for the future.”

Other headlines from the program:

  • ESPN columnist Jake Trotter named Mayfield the best player in the country this season. He also said Oklahoma might have lost the game if it had any other quarterback in program history other than Mayfield.
  • Defensive tackle Neville Gallimore will play against TCU after missing two games. Safety Kahlil Haughton is out for the game, while cornerback Jordan Thomas is questionable, according to DieHards reporter John Shinn.
  • Oklahoma has been dominant on the recruiting trail in the state of Oklahoma. DieHards went through and talked about how Bedlam has set the tone.

Salute to Service weekend

It’s Salute to Service weekend and three major athletic events this weekend will be connected.

No. 5 Oklahoma football plays No. 8 TCU at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, and the game will honor veterans on Veterans Day. The game will feature an American Flag presentation and a marching band performance geared towards the event.

Men’s and women’s basketball will both feature special events as well. The Friday women’s basketball game against Belmont features Courtney Paris’ jersey being retired. Paris is the greatest player in Oklahoma history and a four-time All-American.

The men’s basketball game on Sunday takes place at 2 p.m. CT against Omaha. The game will be a Fan Appreciation Day. There will be a fan fest before the game.

Tickets to the football game will be valid at both basketball games as well.
