Oklahoma senior linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo was named a semifinalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced on Thursday.
The Lott IMPACT Trophy is annually presented to college football’s best defensive player in both character and performance.
Okoronkwo has racked up 53 tackles, 14 for a loss, 8 sacks, forced 3 fumbles, recovered 1 fumble and broken up 2 passes this season, and a big reason for the Sooners’ success in 2017.
The other semifinalists include Alabama DB Minkah Fitzpatrick, Texas DE Malik Jefferson, Iowa LB Josey Jewell, Virginia LB Micah Kiser, Washington State DL Hercules Mata’afa, Stanford DL Harrison Phillips, USC LB Cameron Smith and Notre Dame S Drue Tranquill.
The winner of the award will announced at The Lott IMPACT Trophy Award Banquet on Dec. 10.
