Oklahoma football becomes new betting favorite to win national championship

According to oddsmakers, Oklahoma is now the favorite to win the College Football Playoff national championship this season.

The Sooners now have 4-1 odds to win it all, according to Bovada. That’s a marked improvement after they had 19-4 odds to win the title before last weekend. Alabama, Auburn and Clemson are all tied for the next best odds at 17-4.

Team National Title Odds
Oklahoma (11-1) 4-1
Alabama (11-1) 17-4
Auburn (10-2) 17-4
Clemson (11-1) 17-4
Georgia (11-1) 7-1
Ohio State (10-2) 7-1

The jump for Oklahoma is due in part to Alabama’s loss to Auburn over the weekend, which eliminated Alabama from the race for the SEC title. The Crimson Tide used to be the prohibitive favorite with even odds before the Iron Bowl.

However, the fact that Bovada still gives Alabama the second-best odds means bettors obviously think the Crimson Tide still has a good shot at making the playoff field even without a conference championship.

Oklahoma’s last test before the postseason will be the Big 12 Championship this week against TCU. If the Sooners win that game, they are a virtual lock for the playoff, and could end up with one of the top two seeds.

The Sooners and Horned Frogs will face off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
