Ohio’s top defensive tackle to visit Buckeyes this weekend
As Urban Meyer, Larry Johnson and the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff prepare for a major cross-conference showdown with Oklahoma this weekend, they may be taking a little victory lap knowing they’ve won one big battle already this week.
Walnut Hills (Cincinnati) 4-star defensive tackle Jowon Briggs, a 2019 prospect and perhaps Ohio’s best at the position regardless of class, told Land of 10 on Wednesday night that he’s heading to Columbus to watch the Buckeyes on Saturday night. The 6-foot-2, 275-pound Briggs is as quiet as they come on the recruiting front, and there’s good reason to believe that he’s favoring Notre Dame over Ohio State.
The Irish host the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, and the decision on which game to attend was not as clear-cut as most Ohioans would like to think.
With Briggs, Cade Stover, Zach Harrison and Zeke Correll all expected at Ohio Stadium, this is turning into a huge weekend for not just the Buckeyes’ 2018 class, but also for the in-state group in 2019.
Noah Cain looking at Ohio State, Oklahoma offensive execution
Staying in the Class of 2019, the Buckeyes will again see their top running back target — IMG Academy’s Noah Cain — in Columbus. The country’s No. 1-ranked 2019 tailback, Cain will visit Ohio State for the third time since March. He arrives Saturday afternoon and will depart Sunday morning, getting just a quick glance at the school but a big opportunity to see two of his favorite schools up close.
“What I’ll be watching the most is the offensive execution,” Cain told Land of 10.
That means Ohio State and Oklahoma. This visit is an interesting one for Cain, because as noted, these are two of his favorite schools. You can’t get him to give a score prediction for the contest, so don’t ask.
“I can’t give a prediction,” he joked when asked. “I don’t know who will win. They both looked really powerful in Week 1.”
One thing that caught Cain’s eye? The way Ohio State freshman J.K. Dobbins was utilized. It helps the 5-foot-11, 207-pound tailback see a path to playing time early in college.
“I was happy to see how they used him,” Cain said. “I’m glad to see they aren’t afraid to use true freshmen.”
Detroit standout heading to town

Tyrece Woods is a 6-2, 225-pound linebacker at Detroit Martin Luther King High School. He’s been to Ohio State previously for camps, but this will be his first trip to campus for a game. Ohio State is one of the schools that have been reaching out to him the most since Sept. 1.
“Almost every day,” Woods told Land of 10 when asked about his contact with the Buckeyes. “[Cornerbacks coach Kerry] Coombs has been saying they’re going to be on me a lot. They needed more film because I missed most of my sophomore year due to injury.
“I’m excited to get to talk to coach Schiano this weekend.”
Woods grew up in Detroit, but he says he’s not a fan of any of the local teams.
“My dad always was a Michigan fan, but it never sunk in on me,” he said. “I’ve always loved Oregon with their vibrant uniform combinations and the quick explosive offense.”
And Ohio State? What’s he think about the Buckeyes?
Updated official visitors list for Ohio State-Oklahoma
It’s Thursday and that means tomorrow is Friday (I’m smart!) so we’re getting closer to the full official visitors list for the matchup against Oklahoma.
Today’s update includes the removal of Ohio State verbal Brian Snead, who will not make it up as planned, according to sources close to the situation. There’s no reason given, but the weather in Florida is a pretty good guess.
