Ohio State to host Christian Tutt
The Buckeyes are preparing for their first big official visitors weekend, and while the list isn’t complete, you can add 4-star cornerback Christian Tutt to the group.
“I’m visiting Ohio State this weekend,” Tutt told Land of 10. “I talk to them every other day on the phone or text.”
Three Buckeyes coaches, including Urban Meyer, have continued to stay in contact with the country’s 23rd-ranked cornerback.
“I talk to [Kerry] Coombs, [Greg] Schiano and Meyer,” he said. “They tell me I’m a top priority.”
Tutt will arrive in Columbus on Saturday morning and depart on Sunday night. He visited the Buckeyes last November when they beat Nebraska 62-3.
Top in-state 2019 lineman back to see Buckeyes
Ohio State will once again welcome Cincinnati 2019 offensive lineman Zeke Correll for a visit this weekend.
It’s been a wild week for the in-state junior. Last Friday was Sept. 1, meaning that college coaches across America were able to unleash messages and mailers on all of the nation’s top 2019 prospects.
“It was a little wild,” Correll said of the onslaught. “I was getting a bunch of texts at midnight, the night before a game. I am not sure how many schools messaged. Probably more than 20.
“The craziest thing was getting the mail the next day.”
A Kentucky legacy, Correll has made repeated trips to Ohio State this year. The Buckeyes have already offered. Now they’re putting their interest on paper. A lot of paper.
“I had 17 envelopes from Ohio State,” Correll said, laughing. “Wild.”
Drama for drama’s sake
There’s no doubt that yes, the end of the recruitment of Emory Jones is not yet upon us, at least not entirely.
Jones has made no bones about it, which is refreshing. He’s almost certainly going to visit Alabama, and says the Crimson Tide are the lone program other than Ohio State still aggressively recruiting him. He’s been committed to the Buckeyes for more than 14 months and he continues to recruit on Ohio State’s behalf.
But the Bama cloud lingers. Jones saw the Crimson Tide play in Atlanta this past weekend, a game in which Jalen Hurts completed 10 passes to just four different players (one wideout, two running backs and one to himself, believe it or not). The offensive shifts Jones (and honestly, other quarterbacks) are hoping to see from the Crimson Tide under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll clearly isn’t there yet.
Jones knows he’ll make an official visit to Ohio State on Oct. 28. He knows that, after his poor decision to visit Bama in the summer without telling the Ohio State staff, the Buckeyes aren’t going after any other quarterbacks.
He knows that J.T. Barrett is in his last season at Ohio State and that rumors of either Joe Burrow or Dwayne Haskins leaving the program (based on who wins the starting job next fall) persist. He knows Tate Martell is on the Ohio State roster and he knows a redshirt season probably is in his best interests. There will be space between Jones and the “other” quarterbacks on the Buckeyes roster.
The only reason Jones would flip to Alabama, at this point, is because it’s significantly closer to his Georgia home than Columbus.
That being what it is, you will continue to see a steady stream of “will he or won’t he” type posts about Jones over the next few months. The dramatics that come with recruiting, especially as you stack up Ohio State and Bama, will be too much for some people to ignore.
