Is Ohio State on the best run of college football success since 2000?

Welcome to another installment of Wake Up Sloopy, Land of 10’s daily morning column covering Ohio State athletics with beat writer Ryan Ginn. Here’s a look at what you might have missed on Wednesday.

Ohio State a model of consistency

Almost nobody has done it better than Ohio State since the calendar flipped to this century.

Bleacher Report ranked Ohio State second behind Alabama in its list of the best college football programs since 2000.

The Buckeyes have an argument for the top spot in that debate thanks to their consistency — Alabama didn’t do much at all from 2000-07 — but the Tide’s four titles put them in the top spot on Bleacher Report’s list.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before: J.T. Barrett is on a national magazine cover.

The latest came from Sports Illustrated, which put the quarterback on one of its four regional covers for the college football preview issue.

Undefeated season coming?

Ohio State doesn’t have an easy schedule. The Buckeyes will have to go through three really good teams — Oklahoma, Penn State and Michigan — and also hit the road to face Nebraska and Iowa. Even so, the Buckeyes are a popular pick to finish the regular season 12-0.

The latest is ESPN’s Football Power Index, which gives Ohio State a 35 percent chance to finish the regular season undefeated. That’s the highest mark in the country… and it’s not close. Alabama has the second-best odds at 10 percent.
