Ohio State football is the No. 1 topic in Wake Up Sloopy every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Blue Smith commits to Ohio State

Ohio State’s Class of 2018 added another big piece Sunday. The Buckeyes received a commitment from 4-star Blue Smith, giving them their first pledge from a wide receiver.

Smith gives the Buckeyes a big-time weapon both in the red zone and in the vertical passing game. Land of 10 broke down the impact of his commitment here.

The pledge also further entrenched the Buckeyes in the No. 1 spot for the 2018 recruiting rankings, ahead of No. 2 Texas, per 247Sports.

Branden Bowen gets right guard start

Branden Bowen will be Ohio State’s starting right guard, ending a battle that has been among the team’s most anticipated since the 2017 season ended.

Bowen had been a backup tackle, but emerged this fall as a leading candidate for the open spot. At 6-foot-7, 312 pounds, Bowen gives the Buckeyes three of five starters on the offensive line who stand 6-7.

Kyle Snyder does it again

Ohio State wrestler and Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder now has a legitimate case as the best wrestler in the world. Snyder won a second world championship at 97 kg on Saturday.

The win was particularly impressive because it came against Russian star Abdulrashid Sadulaev, who also won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics but came up a weight class for the 2017 worlds. It was Sadulaev’s first loss in almost four years.

Now Snyder will return to Columbus for his senior season, where he’ll go for a third consecutive NCAA title.
