Buckeyes stay No. 2 in polls

Ohio State will have a top-5 matchup on its hands on Saturday night. The Buckeyes stayed No. 2 in both polls, while Oklahoma jumped up two spots to No. 5 in the AP Top 25 released Tuesday.

Alabama was ranked ahead of the Buckeyes in both polls after beating Florida State in its first game.

Ezekiel Elliott denied, but can play Week 1

Former Buckeyes star Ezekiel Elliott’s NFL suspension was upheld by an arbitrator on Tuesday, which means he will have to serve his six-game ban.

Because of the timing, he will still be allowed to play in the Dallas Cowboys’ season-opener Sunday. Elliot is also seeking a temporary restraining order to block the suspension until a court rules on it, which could further delay the enforcement of his suspension.

Double depth at running back

Ohio State released its depth chart on Tuesday, and Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins were listed as co-starters at running back.

The Buckeyes plan to use both of them, though it appears Weber will get the first carry. His return should provide a big boost to the Buckeyes against Oklahoma.

Joe Burrow throwing again

Buckeyes quarterback Joe Burrow is already throwing after having surgery on a broken bone in his right hand. Urban Meyer announced the news during the Big Ten teleconference on Tuesday.

That development means any potential advantage Dwayne Haskins had from Burrow’s absence could be minimized if Burrow returns before Haskins even has a chance to see the field in backup duty.

Here’s how Ohio State teams fared on Tuesday:

  • Field hockey lost to Kent State 2-1 at home, its first loss of season (2-1).
