Finally, after a tumultuous offseason that has included a long-awaited NCAA ruling and a broken hand, the defending national champion North Carolina basketball team takes the floor tomorrow.
Before that, however, reigning Final Four Most Outstanding Player Joel Berry II received one more preseason award Thursday. Berry was one of 50 players named to the Naismith Award Watch list by the NCAA on Thursday.
The Naismith Award is the presented annually to the national player of the year.
Berry is expected to miss the first two weeks or so of North Carolina’s season. However, the senior should be the go-to guy for the Tar Heels this season. After averaging 14.7 points per game last year, Berry is the only player among North Carolina’s five leading scorers from last season back on the team this year.
Berry has already been named to the preseason first-team all-ACC and the AP preseason second-team All-America. Berry was the first player to miss out on the first team.
