Nebraska football is the No. 1 topic in Big Red Rising every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Huskers sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Huskers football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Love for Bob Diaco

The NFL loves Nebraska defensive coordinator Bob Diaco. Dan Shonka, a longtime pro scout and general manager with Ourlads.com, spoke with Land of 10’s Sean Keeler about Diaco and what makes him a standout coach.

Record of a new season

Nebraska 2018 commit Brendan Radley-Hiles will contribute a weekly first-person diary to Land of 10. His first installment focuses on the beginning of his senior season at IMG Academy in Florida and his goal to be the best teammate he can be.

Talking about practice

Fall camp may be over, but Nebraska football still has one more week until game week. Coach Mike Riley and a few players met with the media after practice on Tuesday to share a little about where Nebraska’s at now. The biggest takeaway? Senior wide receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El is once again the starting punt returner.

Pilot program

The Huskers unveiled a new captioning program that will “enhance the football game-day experience for hearing impaired fans and for anyone who has ever missed the referee’s call or the PA announcement.” Three game-knowledgeable transcribers will be live at Memorial Stadium this fall to make it happen.

A bizarre recruiting story

Marshall Faulk ultimately signed with San Diego State in the early 1990s, but he could have been with the Cornhuskers. Jack Pierce, Nebraska’s off-campus recruiting coordinator from 1985-92, wanted Faulk but an encounter at Memorial Stadium may have changed history.

The coolest coach in college football

Who is the coolest coach in college football? Riley, according to Jim Rome.
