Nebraska receives votes in 2017 AP Preseason Top 25

Nebraska football enters the 2017 season unranked but picked up four votes in the inaugural Associated Press rankings, released Monday.

What it means: Nebraska being unranked in the AP poll isn’t a big surprise. The Huskers received 23 votes in the USA Today Coaches poll, which put the team at No. 36 overall. It’s not a great spot to be in, but it’s not the worst either. Nebraska was also unranked to start the 2016 season, and entered the top 25 at No. 20 after going 3-0 to start the season.

If the Huskers get through non-conference play in similar fashion this season, they’ll likely break into the top 25 at roughly the same point.

What’s next: Nebraska opens its season on Saturday, Sept. 2, against Arkansas State. The game will be broadcast at 8 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network.
