Receiving a Blackshirt was a dream come true for Gifford, who’s a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, and grew up watching Nebaska.
“I’ve been thinking of this since I was old enough to know what Nebraska football was,” Gifford told huskers.com. “I’ve been coming to games my whole life. I’ve been dreaming about it. It was a pretty cool feeling.”
The Huskers tweeted a video of the players getting their Blackshirts, showing the exact moment the players got their prize.

The Huskers’ tradition of Blackshirts can be traced back to 1964, according to huskers.com, and has carried on at Nebraska ever since. Even though the tradition has changed throughout the past few decades, the importance has remained the same for those select Nebraska players to earn a Blackshirt jersey.
