Nebraska football concludes fall camp in style, offensive linemen bond over food, a recruiting update, and more

Nebraska-Nebraska football-Cornhuskers practice

Nebraska football is the No. 1 topic in Big Red Rising every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Husker sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Husker football, recruiting, basketball and more.

The end of fall camp

Nebraska football’s fall camp concluded on Friday with the team being surprised with tickets to Kendrick Lamar and a Saturday off from coach Mike Riley. What did we learn from Week 3? A number of things, including an update on when scholarships, captains and redshirts would be announced. (Spoiler alert: It’ll happen this week.)

Nebraska’s final practice of fall camp was also locked down, with a good amount of scrimmaging and procedural work.

A bond over food

The offensive linemen have bonded over their love food. Well, that’s actually more specifically a bond over offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh’s teriyaki chicken. Don’t worry … We provided the recipe.

It’s complicated

That’s the current status of Nebraska’s 2018 recruiting class. There’s a lot to like about it, with the most recent commitment from 4-star WR Cameron Brown. However, 4-star WR Manuel Allen also just flipped to Louisville.

So it goes.

Running the show

Nebraska’s student managers are a vital part of the football team. They keep everything running smoothly (and boast quite a few roles overall), despite only a few being paid minimum wage and the others volunteering.

Nothing fake about it

Have you gotten the sense that Nebraska’s defensive staff really likes each other? You would be right if so. In fact, they are bonding just as they hoped they would and they’re not faking it one bit.

High praise

Legendary former Nebraska coach and athletic director Tom Osborne was recently at the University of Central Florida for the Countdown to Kickoff luncheon. While there, he got to see former Huskers quarterback Scott Frost in action as a head coach. Osborne praised Frost for being the “whole package” as a coach.
