Nebraska football begins Oregon prep; former Huskers DC Charlie McBride sees defense getting better

Nebraska football is the No. 1 topic in  Big Red Rising every day — but we cover news, notes and analysis from across Huskers sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Huskers football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Oregon prep begins

Nebraska began its preparation for Oregon on Monday with a light practice that mostly focused on installation. Defensive coordinator Bob Diaco met with the media following practice, where he discussed participation patterns, a Garth Brooks song and that whole Saturday media debacle.

It’ll get better

At least that’s what former Nebraska defensive coordinator Charlie McBride thinks about the Blackshirts. He spoke with Land of 10’s Sean Keeler about Diaco, the defense and the transition to a 3-4.

Recruit reactions

Nebraska had quite a few top recruits on campus this past Saturday. What did they think of the Huskers and Memorial Stadium? All good things, it appears.

Nothing new

The Huskers released the depth chart for the matchup with Oregon on Monday. Spoiler alert: There’s absolutely nothing different about it.

The line keeps moving

Vegas isn’t sure what to make of the matchup between Nebraska and Oregon on Saturday. Currently, the Ducks are favored by 14 points, but the line keeps on moving.

The other side

What is the Oregon side of things saying about Saturday? The Oregonian previewed the matchup. An interesting fact from the preview? The Huskers now are 9-0 under coach Mike Riley when rushing for more than 200 yards.

Bigger than football

Some things are just bigger than football. That’s why when Nebraska’s student section had a chance to support Wendy Anderson, the wife of Arkansas State coach Blake Anderson, it didn’t hesitate.

Oversleep and miss a recent Big Red Rising? No worries. We have all our past editions  here.
