Editor’s note: Nebraska football commit Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles, the Huskers’ top-ranked 2018 recruit from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.,, will contribute a weekly first-person story to Land of 10. Here is the third installment, as told to beat writer Erin Sorensen.
Something that you may not know about me? I actually prefer to play in away games. It’s not because I don’t like playing at home, I promise.
It’s just that when IMG is on the road, we get a bigger crowd. Because it’s IMG, our opponent is always going to bring out their best game. That includes a lot of fans. Everybody wants to see IMG play. For that reason, my teammates and I love away games. Sometimes we prefer it.
For me personally, I also like playing on the West Coast because more of my family is able to attend the games. During downtime, I’m able to spend time with them. That includes my dad, my sister and my cousins. And it meant a lot for my whole family to see my two interceptions – one I returned for a touchdown – in IMG’s win over Centennial last Saturday.
They won’t get to be there now for the next few weeks. As you probably guessed, IMG is at home now for a little while. My mom will be here this weekend for our matchup with St. Frances Academy from Baltimore, so I’ll still get to spend time with her during downtime though. I’m looking forward to that.
This will also be my mom’s fourth trip to IMG. She came to drop me off, and then again for the spring game and the scrimmage game. I appreciate her coming all the way from Las Vegas to see me.
Speaking of family, I haven’t had a chance to watch Nebraska’s game against Arkansas State yet but my cousin Tyjon Lindsey did send me some of his highlights. I know he had three catches. I was very happy for him.
I also saw that a couple of my 2018 classmates were in Lincoln, like Joshua Moore and Cameron Brown. I know they were showing Isaah Crocker the ropes, which I think is cool.
I like it to see other recruits getting to see what I saw. I’ve never been the type of person to be selfish, so I like to spread the wealth in any type or form. When I get to see interesting and life changings things or experience those things, I like to show my peers that. When others go to Nebraska, I enjoy their time for them.
As for me, I’m still trying to figure out when I’ll be back to Lincoln. I have so many games on Saturdays that it’s hard to schedule, but Coach Donte [Williams] is helping me figure it out.
In the meantime, I’m ready for IMG’s next game this Friday night. It’ll be on ESPNU [at 7 p.m. ET as a part of the 2017 GEICO ESPN High School Football Showcase].
And regardless if it’s home or away, I’m always looking forward to another opportunity to represent IMG and help my team get another win.
