Nation’s top-ranked SG Romeo Langford includes Kansas in top 3

Elite shooting guard prospect Romeo Langford is down to three finalists and the Kansas Jayhawks remain in the mix, along with Indiana and Vanderbilt, according to a report from ZagsBlog.

A 5-star prospect out of New Albany, Ind., Langford’s latest cut left North Carolina and UCLA on the outside looking in. The Indiana product spent September and October making his official visits, with Kansas being the last stop on his five-team tour on Oct. 27.

He detailed what it is about Kansas that appeals to him, per ZagsBlog.

“Just their guards and the way Coach [Bill] Self uses their guards,” Langford said. “I feel like I’d also fit well in with their system and the way he gets his guards ready for the NBA.”

A 6-foot-5, 191-pound prospect, Langford is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 shooting guard recruit, and understandably so.

247Sports provided some insight on what one of Kansas’ top 2018 targets brings to the table:

“Five-star guard Romeo Langford emerged in a big way as a sophomore, and since then he has done nothing to slow down. He has good size at around 6-foot-4, and is a tremendous athlete. Also he is a good jump shooter who is capable of getting to the rim. A quiet kid by nature, Langford could be more assertive on the court, but that is nitpicking his game. Langford has a tremendous track record of production, led his high school team to a state title, and he also still has big time upside with room to improve.”

With a spring decision date in mind, the Jayhawks still have plenty of work to do in pursuit of the nation’s No. 5 overall recruit, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. To date, the home-state Hoosiers hold 80 percent of Langford’s Crystal Ball projections.

Although Bill Self and the Jayhawks do currently boast the nation’s No. 3-ranked recruiting class — one headlined by 5-star point guard Devon Dotson — the Jayhawks are yet to add a pledge on the wing.

Langford is one of several elite talents that Kansas remains in the mix with, along with 5-star small forward Zion Williamson and 5-star combo guard Quentin Grimes.
