It was reported on Tuesday that Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead will be the new head coach of Mississippi State, and the school made it official on Wednesday.

The Mississippi State football Twitter account tweeted out the news:

In his two seasons with Penn State, Moorhead helped put the Nittany Lions back on the map. He was named the 2016 National Offensive Coordinator of the Year.

Penn State head coach James Franklin said that he is happy for Moorhead.

“We couldn’t be happier for Joe Moorhead and his family,” Franklin said. “This is a tremendous opportunity for him to return to being a head coach and continue to move forward in his career. We are so appreciative of everything that he has done for Penn State Football in his two years. Joe’s combination of leadership, X’s and O’s, and, most importantly, positive attitude brought the best out of our very talented offensive student-athletes. He has been a great mentor and coach to our student-athletes and friend to me and our staff. We wish Joe nothing but success at Mississippi State.”

Franklin also confirmed the news on Twitter:

Moorhead will be the head coach of a team for the second time in his career, as he coached Fordham from 2012-15 before joining Penn State.
