Mike Tomlin announces Josh Dobbs will start preseason game for Pittsburgh Steelers

Josh Dobbs won’t have to wait long to show the NFL what he’s made of on Friday.

According to a report from Chase Williams of WPXI, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Wednesday that Josh Dobbs will start the team’s preseason opener against the New York Giants on Friday.

Dobbs, which was the fourth round selection of the Steelers in the NFL Draft earlier this year, is working to earn a spot on the Pittsburgh quarterback depth chart behind long-time starter Ben Roethlisberger.

Dobbs earned some praise earlier the offseason, and appears to be in position to earn the No. 2 role if he’s able to outduel former Oklahoma QB Landry Jones.
