Michigan State CB Josiah Scott rated as nation’s top Week 1 freshman by Pro Football Focus

Michigan State cornerback Josiah Scott had an impressive college debut.

The true freshman showed that its not going to be easy to throw his way in the Spartans 35-10 season-opening win against Bowling Green. Scott was credited with two passes defended and assisted on a tackle for loss in the victory. But his play went beyond the box score.

Pro Football Focus College rated the nation’s top 10 freshmen performers from Week 1, and nobody earned a mark as high as Scott.

Scott was one of three Big Ten freshmen in the top 4, joined by Nebraska defensive linemen Deontre Thomas (No. 3) and Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins (No. 4). Thomas, a defensive tackle, had three tackles and clogged up the middle of the line in Nebraska’s win over Arkansas State, while Dobbins ran for 181 yards on 29 carries against Indiana.
