Michigan hosting high-priority recruits for OSU game

The sidelines for the Ohio State game are going to be a little more crowded with players on recruiting visits.

Offensive lineman Nicholas Petit-Frere, wide receiver JaMarr Chase and defensive end Taylor Upshaw have made plans to visit Ann Arbor for the game at Michigan Stadium on Nov. 25, according to reports by Scout.com and 247Sports.

Sam Webb of TheMichiganInsider reported that Petit-Frere, a 4-star tackle from Tampa, and Chase, a 4-star wide receiver from Metairie, La., will be taking official visits with the Wolverines that weekend. Michigan first offered Petit-Frere, who is rated the No. 42 player overall in the 2018 class by the 247Sports composite, during his sophomore year. The Wolverines extended an offer to Chase after he de-committed from Florida last month.

Upshaw remains a Florida commit, but the 3-star defensive end from Bradenton, Fla., told 247Sports that he’s scheduled an official visit to Michigan for the Ohio State game.

The firing of Jim McElwain as Florida’s coach has given other programs a shot at possibly changing players’ minds. Upshaw (6-foot-5, 240 pounds) is the son of former NFL player Regan Upshaw. Michigan offered him on Oct. 30, so they’ve quickly developed a promising relationship. Upshaw told 247Sports that he plans on taking his official visit to Florida after the season.

Aidan Hutchinson is the only defensive lineman currently among the 15 commits the Wolverines have for 2018.

Here are other players who have been reported to be visiting the Big House on Nov. 25:

  • 2018 DE Eyabi Anoma
  • 2018 DT Alim McNeil
  • 2018 TE Michael Ezeike
  • 2018 ATH Talanoa Hufunga
  • 2018 QB Joe Milton (Michigan commit)
  • 2018 TE Tommy Tremble
  • 2018 DE Jayson Oweh
  • 2018 DT Rick Sandidge
  • 2018 DT Michael Thompson
  • 2019 RB Noah Cain
  • 2019 RB Eric Gray
  • 2019 LB Charles Thomas (Michigan commit)
  • 2020 OL Justin Rogers

Men’s hoops receives fourth NLI

Michigan received its fourth signed National Letter of Intent for the 2018 basketball class Thursday when 4-star forward Ignas Brazdeikis sent in his paperwork. Brazdeikis, from Ontario, Canada, signed his NLI during a ceremony at Orangeville Prep.

Power forward Brandon Johns of East Lansing is the lone remaining commit left to sign. He is expected to make his commitment official on Friday. Point guard David DeJulius, shooting guard Adrien Nunez, and center/forward Colin Castleton signed their NLIs on Wednesday.
