Michigan running back Karan Higdon hurt his ankle and will miss the entire second half of Saturday’s game against Maryland.

Higdon, Michigan’s leading rusher, twisted his ankle while getting tackled during a play in the second quarter. He had 50 rushing yards on 10 carries and 2 catches for 48 yards in the game before the injury.

Higdon walked to the locker room alongside some of Michigan’s medical staff, and the Big Ten Network reported that the junior would not return against the Terps.

With 804 yards in Michigan’s first 9 games, Higdon entered Saturday as the team’s leading rusher. He also could be the first Michigan running back to hit the 1,000-yard mark in 6 seasons if his ankle injury is not too serious.

Michigan should be fine for the rest of the game vs. Maryland without Higdon. Running backs Ty Isaac and Chris Evans were getting most of the backfield duties in the second half of a 28-3 game in College Park, Md.
