The Miami football team may have just suffered a second devastating blow to its receiving corps in a week.
Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reported Wednesday that wide receiver Ahmon Richards was carted off the field with an injury during the team’s Wednesday morning practice. The nature of the injury was not revealed, although Miller Degnan reported that other players and coach Mark Richt gathered around Richards as he was being tended to.
Richt declined to comment on the injury, according to Miller Degnan.
Miami lost star tight end Christopher Herndnon IV for the season on Saturday due to a knee injury suffered against Pittsburgh. Herndon is second on the team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns this season. Richards, who broke Michael Irvin’s school record for most receiving yards by a freshman last season, is third in all three categories.
Together, Richards and Herndon have combined for 909 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on the year.
Richards has been limited by hamstring and ankle injuries all season. He missed three of the team’s first five games of the season and hardly played against Notre Dame in Week 11, not recording a single catch in the game. However, the past two weeks he has caught a combined seven passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
