Mat Boesen nabs Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor

Mat Boesen absolutely annihilated Baylor last Saturday, and has been named Big 12 defensive player of the week for his efforts.

Boesen had five and a half sacks, a Big 12 and TCU record. The NCAA record for sacks in a single game is six, Boesen missed tying a national record by a mere half sack.

His feats during the Baylor game were massive, and he’ll have to ride that wave of momentum into next week if the Horned Frogs want to beat Oklahoma in the conference title game. Oklahoma had their way with TCU the last time they met in Norman, and you can be assured that the Horned Frogs haven’t forgotten the loss.

In order to take home the Big 12 Championship, the Horned Frogs and Boesen are going to have to do a much better job containing Heisman favorite Baker Mayfield. Mayfield threw for three touchdowns and over 300 yards on TCU, something that Boesen will have to help mitigate when they meet again.
