Gus Johnson is known for being able to will excitement into existence. He recently willed a nickname for a prominent Oklahoma receiver into existence as well.
Every since Johnson labeled Marquise Brown “Hollywood”, Brown and his family have embraced it, per a report form Tulsa World’s Cody Stavenhagen.
Johnson started calling Brown “Hollywood” because he went to JUCO in California, and the receiver just stuck with it. He changed his display name on Twitter to “Hollywood Brown” recently.
As far as nicknames go, it could be a lot worse.
Brown has surged in the second half of the season. He caught nine passes for a staggering 265 yards and two touchdowns in Bedlam. Baker Mayfield nearly passed for 600 yards, and Brown accounted for over a third of that production. That’s a big time performance in the biggest game of the year to date for Oklahoma.
Brown will have to be excellent again, as TCU is bringing their dominant defense to Norman this weekend. If Oklahoma pulls out the victory, they’ll lead the Big 12 and their playoff hopes will remain alive. If they lose here, there’s a strong possibility that they’ll lose everything they’ve worked for this season.
