While LSU has all its focus on a tough Week 1 matchup against BYU, some major news surfaced about the Bayou Bengals’ Week 2 opponent.
Senior QB Alejandro Bennifield, the team’s Second-Team All-Southern Conference performer from last season, received a four-game suspension from the NCAA for an academic violation on Friday.
“Last night Alejandro’s final appeal was denied,” senior associate athletic director Jay Blackman told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “We went through a series of attempts of getting a waiver, but the final attempt was denied Thursday night.”
Former Mississippi State QB Nick Tiano is now expected to start for the Mocs as they get set to face Jacksonville State in the season opener.
